Fundamentals Of Interior Design

In the interior design of any building, there are many important factors that should be borne in mind. The under-mentioned basic guidelines, if stuck to, will take care of most of these factors. Though these can be applied in a variety of ways in different situations, you should know the impact that each has on the final result.

Unity: As per this, the entire space should be considered as a single unit, which has been partitioned through walls, and this should be taken into account while designing the interiors of the space, which therefore must have some consistency. It will be prudent to keep in mind the overall scheme of things.

Balance: This means appropriately adjusting objects in a given space. It is always better to place things with equal visual characteristics at different points in order to strike a good balance. Balance is categorized into three broad kinds. The most basic type is symmetrical balance, which is very straightforward to attain. The second is asymmetrical, which requires a lot of imagination, but is increasingly preferred. The last is radial, which is achieved by using a central point or object from which the other items seem to radiate.

Proportion: This deals with the relative dimensions of items in an area. It is important that most objects in a room be proportional to one another. Lack of proportion will cause imbalance that will negatively affect the appearance of the room, as some items will be over focussed while others will not get sufficient visibility.

Focus: High quality interior design needs a focus in the space. What type of focal item you select is up to you. It could be something like a nice painting or a furniture item. It is important that this object be in line with the design of the overall room and that it has an impression on the observer. While it should be exclusive, it must gel with its surroundings.

Rhythm: Having a rhythm too is very important for attaining a good design. This implies that the room should have a discernible visual pattern and clear continuity. This can be achieved through the use of arcs, patterned walls or floors, through decorations or furnishings, and through repeating shades or designs.

Interior designing of a space will be coherent if these fundamental guidelines are taken into consideration. It is advisable to hire a good interior design professional who can handle all these factors and also help you with the details.
